5 Interior Design Trends to Add Bling and Sparkle to Any Home

If you are thinking about adding a bit of sparkle to your home décor, you are not alone. That thought of possibly diving into the glitz of some of Architectural Digests pages could be reachable in your own home.

Consider a few possibilities like adding shine and sparkle to a powder room bath. Meeting with clients recently, they wanted to do just that. They purchased a mirror with chunky mirrored pieces to replace the builder grade mirror over the pedestal sink in the powder room. The original mirror had no frame and came with the house. The black tile floor was staying, so to bump up the powder room's look and add some sparkle, I chose wallpaper with a metallic finish.

Today, many different papers are available, and the trend of mixing metal finishes is a popular style. Sourcing some options that would work with the black tile and the newly purchased mirror was easy. The look I was going for was more contemporary. A simple gold metallic dot on a gray neutral textured background and a metallic geometric 3D in a square pattern were purchased. One favorite choice was the charcoal background paper with a metallic dot in a contemporary Moroccan style. For a more traditional style, try a metallic background natural grasscloth. All these choices would work perfectly with the chunky panel mirror to add the bling the homeowners were looking for.

Creating an Interior Design: A Stunning Entry and Luxurious Dining Room

Another way to dress up a space and add some sparkle to a foyer entry or dining room would be to step the look of your lighting. Step outside the box and make the chandelier crystal. Go as ornate as your heart desires or simple and conservative, but whatever you do, add crystals.

This is a statement piece that will enhance the whole space. Even if you're not the formal fancy type, try it you won’t regret it, I promise. I’m a fan of the crystal chandelier. Crystals can be found in every metal finish to go with every interior style. Even industrial with a bronze metal base finish and a hint of crystal will do.

For another change, try mosaic tiles with metal embellishments in the design. They are trending strongly today and seem to be here for the long run. Try installing a focal wall in the bathroom with a mosaic design that is white and neutral with just a hint of a metal accent. Adding chrome sconces with crystals around the vanity mirror and a mirrored vanity cabinet th give your design a Hollywood Regency look and appeal to that boring bathroom.

Mixing metals in hardware in another way of adding some bling to a kitchen. Metal cabinet pulls, hinges, metal details on the range hood, and the hardware on the cooking range is a current trend that can give an updated look to any kitchen. As much as we like to shun a brass finish of late, news flash, brass is trending in finishes, from polished to brushed, shiny, and distressed. Embrace brass as long as it is mixed with other metal finishes within a space.

Five Ways to Add Some Bling To Your Home

The following five trends are great ways to add bling to your interior design. These trends are popular options when updating or remodeling your kitchen and bathroom but also work in other areas of your home.

1. Wallpaper with a metallic accent design

unique uses for metals in your interior and the resurgence of wallpaper, especially as an accent wall, are growing trends that can spice up your design. Combine the two in a bathroom, kitchen, family room, or bathroom!

2. Crystal chandeliers in all finishes for all styles

Whether traditional, modern, or contemporary, crystal chandeliers add luxury and bling. A crystal chandelier can work in the dining room, over the stand-alone tub, or in the bedroom to add beautiful style to your interior design.

3. Mosaic tiles with metal accents

Another great use of metal in your design, metalic mosaic tile looks great in the kitchen or bathroom and is easy to clean and maintain.

4. Mirrored cabinets for bathroom vanities

Mirrored cabinets in the bathroom can add light and give the room the impression of being large than it is.

5. Mixing metal on hardware

Mixed metals work in the kitchen or bathroom, and mixing metals on cabinet hardware can add bling and create a visual focal point. When mixing metals, try not to use no more than two or three in your design.
