Bright Ideas For Styling With Color In Your Home
Ever look at the rooms in your home and think something is missing? Even though you might love your furniture and everything you have chosen to go with it, is there something that could possibly add a bit more life to the space?
Styling With Color
Color is what is missing. As someone who loves neutrals in my own space, I looked around at my small living area one day, and I just didn’t love it anymore. Everything just seemed to blend. I had plenty of examples of pieces I loved in the space, but it was just missing some color.
I knew that as we mature, our styles change. My taste for neutrals has remained the same for quite a while, but embracing color in my living space was a change I was happy to make. Interestingly, it was not through changing the paint color.
I made several changes by carefully choosing my accessories. For example, an accent pillow full of texture and loads of color, hot pink florals, and a bright green and yellow hummingbird embroidered on a gray and white textured fabric. All were full of style and perfect for the small settee. The inspiration for adding color was a turn of the head to see the mandolin sitting proudly on the settee. It was placed perfectly without too much thought.
Adding fresh-cut flowers from your garden is another way to add brightness to your space. I’m fortunate to step outside and cut fresh blue hydrangeas to add as a centerpiece on the neutral coffee table made of reclaimed wood. The blue is perfect up against the neutral color settee in the background. Simple things like fresh fruit can add color to any space.
Green apples and oranges mixed with red apples add bright, fresh colors when placed in a bowl on a table or in a guest bedroom for overnight guests to enjoy.
Pops of color can also be added to a white fireplace mantle. After embracing neutral colors for such a long time, summer provides us the opportunity to be creative with fresh flowers and containers to place them in. Finding an ivory background color water pitcher made of terracotta clay with a blue design was the perfect item to add additional color to my mantle. Adding orange Parisian lilies to the pitcher added the height needed and achieved the goal of brightness. Combining more blue hydrangea was a plus.
Greenery can also add brightness. House plants such as Boston ferns fill space and add a sense of warmth and color to a room. Succulents are another way to add color with various shades of greens and purples and can dress up a window sill at the same time.
Bright Ideas for Styling with Color
Embracing color in a space can be done tastefully. Having a neutral backdrop in a room helps when adding various colors simultaneously to a space.
Accent pillows full of color – Accent pillows can not only add color to your space, but they can also add texture. This can give your design depth.
A musical instrument (even if you don't play) is a great prop) – The easy curve of a guitar or the exotic shape of a talking drum can be an interesting piece in your design.
Fresh hydrangeas – Hydrangeas, lilies, orchids, or any other fresh-cut flowers are a beautiful addition to any room. They burst with color, smell great, and can add a little luxury.
Fresh fruit – A bowl of mixed fresh fruit is a great way to add color to any room. And it's a lovely way to greet your overnight guests!
Green plants – Live plants are another way for styling with color and can add interest to a room. Plus, you will enjoy the benefits of fresher air.
Color is an inexpensive way to add interest, depth, and texture to any room in your home. Whether a colorful pillow, stylish rug, beautiful cut flowers, or exotic greenery, styling with color can bring comfort and a little luxury to your home.
