The New Entertainment Veranda at The Clementine House

An Exciting Transformation is Happening at The Clementine House

The new veranda is what we envision entertaining would have been like on the Clementine House's front porch back in 1918. Creating an entertainment space blending history and charm with conversation and gatherings. The new veranda space is designed to entertain guests, host quaint dinner parties, and offer relaxation amongst the property's mountain views.

A Space Designed for Every Occasion

The veranda at The Clementine House will be a place to celebrate special moments, retreat from a day of play on the grounds or hiking in the mountains, swim at Bear Camp Pond, or have space for board games and scrabble with the family. The restoration of the original house extends into this light-filled charming space. We've thoughtfully designed the veranda with multiple resting pockets.

Dining Under the Stars

With the new skylight glass roof, our guests can observe the twinkling stars and the night sky in every square inch of the space. The ambiance is set by the natural outdoor surroundings. Sightings of deer, moose, wild turkeys, and an occasional bear may appear from out of the backwoods. The veranda's open, cozy design allows for alfresco dining experiences, as the bi-folding Marvin windows allow the outside mountain air in. Perfect for hosting dinner parties and entertaining guests with beautifully set tables, flickering candlelight, and the warmth of good company. New England round stone from Delgado Stone encases the exterior and interior space, providing rustic charm to the whole house. The floor-to-ceiling stone pillars separate the beautiful black-framed Marvin windows and entry doors. The Clementine House has finally been given the beauty she deserves.

A Social Sanctuary

Entertaining on the veranda provides the perfect backdrop for laughter and connection. Whether sipping wine with friends, enjoying an afternoon tea, or hosting a celebration, the space offers charming hospitality to every occasion that presents itself. We can't wait to share our vintage linens, glass, and tableware as we prepare for our first boutique designer retreat planned for this spring.

Cozy Evenings by the Fire

Being able to open the windows during the summer for alfresco dining and fresh mountain breezes, the veranda can quickly transform into a warm and cozy winter retreat. The double-sided stone fireplace is another social area highlighting the antique limestone mantelpiece we sourced from Old House Parts in Kennebunk, Maine. This amazing focal point of warmth is where guests will be drawn in by the fire's gentle glow and crackling warmth. Picture curling up with a good book, wrapped in a soft throw, with the fire's glowing flame adding to the evening's ambiance. The fireplace's exterior will provide warmth on the back patio all year round for roasting marshmallows and enjoying meaningful conversations with friends, family, and guests.

Blending Nature and Design

Staying true to the period of The Clementine House, the veranda's interior finishes mimic the original 1918 post and beam ceiling of the first floor in the main house. Vintage and antique lighting is being sourced for the space and will relate to its surroundings, embracing natural materials and soft, inviting textures. The blend of stone, wood, and comfortable furnishings will create a space that feels both comfortable and lived in. Every element will be chosen with intention as we venture to High Point, North Carolina, on a buying trip this week. Floorplans have been designed, creating pockets of seating with furniture placement and accent pieces. I've already hunted for original antique wicker pieces and one special chaise that will be reupholstered in a cozy, plush fabric that beckons one to come to sit and relax. As my husband puts it, the color scheme is "funky monkey" in shades of purples, green, and black, creating a dramatic and moody vibe. Sourcing appointments with showrooms have been scheduled, and we're excited to see what we can find.

An Invitation to Experience

The new veranda at The Clementine House is more than just an architectural addition. It's a lifestyle enhancement that follows the tale of Clementine. Creating a space that reflects a promise of comfort, of celebrating lifestyle in the country, and the joys of entertaining, relaxation, quiet luxury, and meaningful connections. We designed the veranda to welcome guests to take part in our lifestyle experiences. Cooking dinners and sharing knowledge of design, antiquing excursions, flower gardens, and everything else.

As The Clementine House continues to evolve, the veranda's first impression will provide a beginning to the experiences that await. Timeless design and the beauty of shared moments will keep Clementine's passion for this retreat house alive. We are thankful for the amazing workmanship of our contractor, Black Tie Group, Chris Meeken and his team, the Stoneboys, for all their detailed craftmanship, and Mike Fields of SKA Architects for bringing our vision to life.

We are excited to share the experience of warmth and charm of Clementine's new veranda. Stay tuned for more updates as we close in on the final details. Follow The Clementine House on Instagram for more insight into our vision.
