Spring 2020 One Room Challenge - Week 4 Pink No More. Moldings, Plumbing, and Electrical Fixtures

Week 4 of my ORC pink bathroom transformation to mudroom and guest bathroom has really brought some light to the plan.  The carpenters worked on Monday, Memorial Day morning, in order to get the wall panels finished in the mudroom and add the high profile crown around the room.  It’s so exciting to see the mudroom come to life with a straight view to the water upon entering from the garage into the new kitchen.

Shower Walls

WOWZA is all I can say! The shower wall tile was completed, and the large format gray veining is exactly the POP I wanted for the guest bathroom. The plumber was lined up to come and install the polished nickel shower fixtures which included a rain shower head and single valve control.  I wanted to keep the bathroom fixtures simple since we already went over budget on the Thasos hexagon marble floor.

It was so exciting to have a working toilet again on the first floor and even more exciting that the a pink toilet and sink were gone.  The vanity was secured in place and already came installed with the polished nickel faucet when the floor model was purchased from Fergusons’ Kitchen, Bath, and Lighting in Portsmouth, NH.  The plumber hooked up the vanity, toilet, and shower.  It was fantastic to have running water and even shop dog Kalli, had to test out the strength of the showerhead.

I pre-scheduled Fred, my shower door contractor, to come in and template the opening for this week.  The frameless stationary glass panel will be on the left side of the shower opening as the vanity sits in front of this side of the shower.  An oil-rubbed bronze two-wheel track will hold the right side glass panel to slide to the left.

Light Fixtures

The electricians were lined up for the next day after the plumbing was installed.  I was excited to see the Braithwell recycled glass fixture from Currey and Company installed in the mudroom.  The green glass brought up the ming green from the floor to the ceiling perfectly.  Heading into the bathroom through the pocket door in the mudroom, they began to install the clear water glass flush mount rustic coastal ceiling fixture with a distressed base from Shades of Light.  LOVE the look of mixing the metals and finishes.  This is what makes a design project unique and special.  I couldn’t contain myself and kept peeking in to see how the vanity sconce installation was progressing.  Another big WOW!  The Currey and Company Sethos black wrought iron single candle bulb wall sconces brought in the charm and metal elements that I intended this room.  The recycled green glass disc that hung from the sconce fixture was a nice lead in to the bathroom from the companion ceiling fixture in the mudroom.  Lighting was now checked off the list.

Week 5

Going into Week 5 will bring us to painting the mudroom Chantilly Lace from Benjamin Moore and papering the bathroom with Sanderson’s King Protea iridescent wallpaper in linen mica.  The two items I feel will be the last rush for this project to be completed is the Fantasy Brown marble for the mudroom bench with leather finish and the glass shower door.  This pandemic has caused a backlog of projects for these contractors, hoping we make our deadline, I’m cringing just a bit.

I’m excited to shop for accessories for the bathroom and mudroom, the coat hooks for the mudroom still have to be decided on. Accents for the bathroom will come in shades of purples and lavenders, through the guest towels and some countertop highlight accents, and of course candles and flowers.

A big thank you to Linda Weinstein, the creater of the One Room Challenge. This has been so much fun for my first guest participation.

I hope you will follow my ORC on Facebook and Instagram as well. Come back to see Week 5 of the Mudroom Guest Bathroom Remodel updates as we go through painting the mudroom and wallpapering the guest bathroom. Better Homes & Gardens is the official media sponsor of the ORC.
